To celebrate the anniversary of Canada’s first powered flight, we’ve created a permanent exhibit in our lobby. Designed by Canadian engineer J.A.D. McCurdy of Alexander Graham Bell’s Aerial Experiment Association (A.E.A.), the original Silver Dart was the most advanced aircraft at that time in the world. It first flew on Bras d’Or Lake near Baddeck, Nova Scotia on February 23, 1909 with J.A.D. McCurdy at the controls. On display is a model of the Silver Dart as well as a large interpretive panel explaining the story of the Silver Dart and Bell’s A.E.A.
