A prediction of shiny airliners taking off from Winnipeg en-route to destinations east and west seemed like a far-fetched dream to many Canadians in the early 1930s. Yet, in 1938, Winnipeg’s position at the centre of Canada made it the perfect location for the newly formed Trans-Canada Air Line’s (TCA) head office. Winnipeg was quickly transformed into one of the nation’s busiest air centres. The historic building, where more than 1,200 people — including maintenance, customer service, clerical, and management staff — once worked to keep the TCA fleet flying, is today home to the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada. You are invited to the original TCA headquarters, to board the historic Vickers Viscount, and experience a trip back in time. Guided tours are free with paid admission. Tours are always free for members. Tours are held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 pm.
