April 14, 2026 — Winnipeg, Manitoba —The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada (RAMWC) is constructing a full-scale, walk-in mockup of the Orion spacecraft crew capsule — an immersive new experience.
The museum’s restoration team is currently building the Orion capsule mockup to match the dimensions of the NASA spacecraft. Once installed on the museum floor as a fully accessible, hands-on exhibit, visitors will enter the capsule to experience simulated moments of spaceflight for a rare and tactile connection to one of today’s most advanced human spaceflight systems.
“At a time when Canada is participating in lunar missions and investing heavily in aerospace, the Museum has a responsibility to evolve — embracing bold thinking and inclusivity to ensure more young people are exposed to inspirational moments and have access to STEM pathways,” said Peter George, president and CEO of the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada.
The announcement comes amid global interest in spaceflight following the successful completion of the Artemis II mission, with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen on board. Hansen visited the museum in 2025.
Additionally, Winnipeg-based Aerospace industry is actively contributing to Canada’s lunar initiatives through advanced technology development, including satelites that are currently orbiting Mars.
“Canada’s role in lunar exploration is entering an exciting new phase, with innovative technologies being developed right here in Winnipeg at Magellan,” said Ron Drepaul, General Manager of Magellan Aerospace Winnipeg and Museum board member. “An Orion spacecraft replica at the Royal Aviation Museum will give museum visitors a way to relive the mission experience, and, we hope, spark curiosity to inspire the next generation to carry these important programs forward.”
The museum has been enjoying a space-focused year of programming, including record-breaking attendance over spring break, where children’s activities centred on space exploration. In November, the museum’s signature fundraising gala, aptly renamed Into the Blue, will be space-themed to celebrate the role of aviation and aerospace. Additional details, including opening date and public programming, will be announced.
